Last night marked a fantastic milestone for us at Munro Accounting Services as we proudly hosted our very first Making Tax Digital (MTD) Information Evening. Held locally at the Capstone Christian Centre in Alness, the event brought together local business owners, landlords and sole traders, all keen to better understand the upcoming changes to the UK tax system and how they may be affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The atmosphere was warm, welcoming and professional. Each attendee was greeted by our team and provided with a complimentary welcome pack filled with practical guidance and useful resources. These packs included informative materials from leading software providers such as QuickBooks, Croner and Xero, ensuring our guests left with trusted information on digital bookkeeping, payroll solutions and compliance support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening opened with a presentation from our Business Director<\/strong>, Pamela Munro<\/strong>, who began by introducing Munro Accounting Services, informing everyone in attendance who we are, what we do and the wide range of clients we support. With over 200 clients across various industries, we’re proud to be widely known for the high lever of service we provide our clients with throughout the Highlands and beyond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pamela spoke very highly of the clients we work alongside including Limited Companies, Partnerships, Charities though more specifically, the clients we have who will be effected by MTD such as sole traders and landlords. Pam then went on to explain the income thresholds that will determine when clients must begin to comply, helping attendees understand exactly where they may fall within the upcoming phased rollout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Importantly, Pam highlighted the benefits of MTD, including improved accuracy, real-time financial visibility, better tax planning opportunities and reduced last-minute stress at tax year end. Rather than focusing purely on compliance, she demonstrated how digitalisation can genuinely strengthen financial management and decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this, we were delighted to welcome Michael O’Neill<\/strong> from Peninsula<\/strong>, who delivered an engaging and highly informative talk on new employment laws from a HR point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Michael provided us with valuable insights into the work Peninsula carry out on a day-to-day basis and how they work to support businesses across the UK. He discussed real life employment tribunals and cases he had encountered within the last few years, detailing how even small procedural oversights can have significant consequences for employers and their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He spoke about the vital role HR Compliance plays within modern businesses and how employment law is constantly evolving. From contracts and disciplinary procedures to redundancy processes and workplace disputes, Michael emphasised the importance of staying proactive rather than reactive. His discussion of various tribunal cases and the lessons learned from them gained particular interest and attention from both the attendees and the team at Munro Accounting Services. Michael outlined to us how professional guidance can protect a business both financially and reputationally should a dispute occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the most valuable aspects of the evening was the engagement from the audience during our dedicated time for questions and discussions. We ensured there was plenty of opportunity for our guests to raise their own scenarios and concerns, whether relating to MTD thresholds, software options, landlord income or quarterly submissions. With thoughtful questions and open conversations throughout the evening, it was clear that events such as this play a crucial role in giving business owners clarity and confidence during periods of change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making the evening such a success. The feedback we received overnight has been so overwhelmingly positive, we are proud to provide events that not only inform but also support businesses within your local community and further afield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
